Abstract

|
The aim of this study is to contribute design development and eco-friendly functional hanji products by imparting pattern and functionality using chitosan and natural colorants. Screen printing was used to produce pattern on pre-mordanted hanji paper followed by dyeing with madder colorants. Printing with chitosan resulted in improving lightfastness as well as pattern formation on hanji paper and in addition antimicrobial activity was imparted. Samples with chitosan pattern after pre-mordanting with Al and Cu showed clear pattern line because of the large color difference between ground and pattern. It was considered that the experimental process studied in this study can be applied to develop various pattern and color effect on hanji products with eco-friendliness and functionality.
